Before you begin any new supplement for migraine or anything else, it’s wise to ask questions. Here, we answer some of the common questions we hear about CBD oil and migraine. If you have other questions that aren’t addressed here, we hope you’ll drop us a line.
Does CBD get me high?
No. CBD is just one of 120 different substances found in cannabis. THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) is one of the mind-altering components of cannabis, and is most associated with the “high” feeling one gets from marijuana. By contrast, CBD is completely non-psychoactive, so it has no mind-altering effects. Pure CBD oil for migraine does not make you “high,” and has been shown to be safe even in high doses. So while you might feel good using it due to pain relief, you won’t feel like you’re high.

Is this marijuana?
No. Cannabis is a family of plants with two primary species: hemp and marijuana. ThusWell CBD Oil is extracted from the hemp plant and contains no THC (the psychoactive chemical in marijuana).
The cannabis plant is comprised of hundreds of chemical compounds; THC and CBD are the two most common. THC is present in products offering a psychoactive effect or “high.” ThusWell CBD Oil has no psychoactive effect because it is free of THC. In fact, CBD has not only been designated by science as non-psychotropic but has also been found in clinical studies to have antipsychotic effects, with an ability to actually “prevent psychotic-like symptoms induced by high doses of THC.”

Is CBD addictive?
No. In a study by the World Health Organization, CBD was found to be non-addicting. CBD administration was studied “using a variety of tests of abuse potential as well as physiological effects in a randomized double-blind placebo-controlled trial.” According to this study,
“an orally administered dose of 600mg of CBD did not differ from placebo on the scales of the Addiction Research Centre Inventory.” In plain language, this means the WHO did not identify any addiction risk in their study of CBD.

Does CBD help with migraine?
The short answer is, maybe. As referenced in a recent paper published in Headache Currents, pure CBD oil hasn’t yet been studied for its effects on migraine. However, it has shown promise for migraine relief when combined with THC.
CBD has also been studied for its effects on chronic pain with good results. For example, one study conducted in 2009 found that cannabis compounds may be useful in treating pain in long-time users of opioids who want to lessen their use. In 2012, another study found CBD oil to be effective at relieving some types of chronic pain and inflammation, including arthritis and multiple sclerosis.
So while there is practically no data regarding CBD and migraine specifically, some research suggests CBD may actually be better than THC products for inflammation and neuropathic pain. While we await long-term clinical study for CBD and migraine, many are trying it themselves as a safe alternative treatment.

What are the ingredients?
There are only two: CBD isolate and hempseed oil. There are no other ingredients.
How much should I take?
There is no magic dose for everyone. However, ThusWell CBD Oil serving size is 1 ml (one dropper) and there are 30 servings in the bottle. The amount of cannabidiol is 33.33mg per 1 ml of hemp oil.
CBD has been found to be safe even in high amounts, with no major side effects. According to a 2018 study, “adverse events of cannabis medicine pertain primarily to THC, whose total daily dose-equivalent should generally be limited to 30mg/day or less.” By contrast, CBD was found by the same study to be far less potent, which means it “may require much higher doses for its adjunctive benefits on pain.”
As with most supplements, it is wise to start out with smaller doses to see where relief begins and how your body reacts. You may increase your dosage over time to find the right level for you. As with any supplement, we recommend following the label instructions for ThusWell CBD Oil and taking note of how you feel before making any personal adjustments.

Is ThusWell Oil for oral or topical use?
ThusWell CBD Oil is to be taken through the mouth. Most people use it as a sublingual by dropping the oil under their tongue.
I see ThusWell uses 3rd party testing on their CBD Oil. Why is 3rd party testing important?
Because purity and label accuracy are as valuable to us as they are to you. The study has shown that mislabeling is common among other CBD supplements. In fact, on 70 percent of the products tested, the labels inaccurately listed the amount of CBD, claiming either too much or too little. Even more concerning is that in one study, about 1 out of every 5 samples tested (21.43%) actually contained THC, when the label stated no THC was present. People who want to avoid THC and know exactly what they’re consuming should be selective of their sources of CBD products.
This is why ThusWell uses an FDA-registered manufacturing facility and consistently 3rd party testing to ensure our CBD oil is clean and pure. The only ingredients are CBD isolate and hempseed oil. There is nothing else added. And since this is a CBD isolate, there are no terpenes (volatile essential oils). I expect additional 3rd party testing results to be ongoing and added to the site as they become available. Below is an image of the potency analysis.

How does it work?
How CBD works is still a bit of a mystery. Initially, there was some indication that the body’s endocannabinoid system and its receptors bound with CBD like a lock and key. This system is thought to play a role in the immune system, along with other things like memory, anxiety, and mood regulation. Further studies, however, have shown that there is likely no binding taking place, largely dismissing those theories. Could CBD interact with the endocannabinoid system in some way other than binding to its receptors? Yes. But that’s just one of many possibilities. So while studies have shown the promise of CBD in treating epilepsy and even some types of pain, we still know very little about how it actually works within the body.

Is CBD legal?
The legal and regulatory status of CBD continues to evolve. For example, in June 2018, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved its first-ever pharmaceutical drug derived from marijuana. Epidiolex cannabidiol (or CBD) received approval for its treatment of Lennox-Gastaut syndrome and Dravet syndrome, both rare pediatric seizure disorders. Then, in September of 2018, the US Drug Enforcement Administration re-classified cannabidiol from a Schedule 1 drug to Schedule 5. The new distinction applies to any FDA-approved CBD medication containing “finished dosage formulations” of THC below 0.1%. Schedule 5 drugs are not legal unless prescribed by a physician. However, they also come with a low potential for abuse. Adding perspective to the change is the fact that most of the other drugs in this group are pain relievers and anti-diarrheal medications. Like other dietary supplements, CBD products derived from hemp can legally be purchased online and over the counter in most of the US.

Is this something you can use ‘as needed’ or is it ‘use daily’. I am looking for something to take when i have a migraine. Most of the prescriptions used to treat migraines i am allergic to. I usually suffer from a migraine at least once a week, so i don’t need to take something daily, just when one is starting.
